Forest Watch Bioblitz - Deongwar

Join us in Deongwar State Forest for our next Bioblitz!

Queensland has the largest area of native forest of any state or territory in Australia, home to a rich and important diversity of plants and animals and should be transferred to protected areas. We are running Forest Watch to help highlight why these areas are so important to protect and connect people to forests. Using iNaturalist we are creating a network of citizen scientists to demonstrate the diversity of plants and animals that call these forests home.

This time we are teaming up with Save Deongwar State Forest and the Darling Downs Environment Council for the Protect Beautiful Qld week of action. Deongwar State Forest on the lands of the Dungibara People contains 4700 hectares of intact, high conservation value, remnant native forest that has good connectivity to adjoining nature reserves and nearby national parks. It is home to 146 protected native animals including the long-nosed potoroo, powerful owl, black-breasted button-quail, brush-tailed rock wallaby, white-throated needletail, glossy-black cockatoo, red tailed- cockatoo, koala and greater glider.

At our BioBlitz you will join a small group of people who will work together using iNaturalist to take records and observations of what you find in the forest. No need for previous experience using iNaturalist or plant and animal identification. We will run through a quick introduction and team you up with people with more experience. This is a great opportunity to connect to the forest we are trying to protect, taking active steps to help protect it while also learning and having fun with others.
