Save Woogaroo Forest
A proposed development in Springfield would clear up to 136 hectares of remnant forest identified as critical habitat for the Endangered koala.
This forest is part of the Woogaroo Creek-Opossum Creek habitat corridor, one of the remaining connected forest areas in the Springfield-Ipswich region. In a landscape where only around 21% of native vegetation remains, clearing this forest would further fragment wildlife habitat and isolate populations that depend on connected landscapes.
The forest supports koalas, gliders, possums and other arboreal wildlife, and provides important feeding habitat for the Grey-headed Flying-fox. The Endangered Greater Glider is also known to occur within a few kilometres of the site, highlighting the importance of remaining mature forest in this landscape.
Scientists have identified landscapes like this as irreplaceable habitat - places where clearing would cause irreversible impacts because the ecological values cannot be recreated through offsets. Once this forest is gone, it cannot simply be replaced.
