Whitehaven Coal is proposing Australia’s largest new coal mine on the doorstep of the Great Barrier Reef.
The world needs to step off the climate wrecking gas and coal pedal. That’s why the Australian Conservation Foundation and Mackay Conservation Group are heading to the Queensland Land Court to stop this polluting project from derailing Australia's renewable-powered future.
Join us on day one of the court case to show Whitehaven coal and the government that we say NO to new coal!
Hear from speakers across the movement including the Australian Conservation Foundation, Mackay Conservation Group, Move Beyond Coal, and Youth Verdict.
If Winchester South’s monster coal mine gets the green light, Whitehaven will:
- Dig up coal and spew pollution until 2055, generating more than the entire annual emissions of Australia.
- Fuel more frequent and severe storms, floods and bushfires battering struggling communities and destroying the places we love.
- Destroy habitat of endangered koalas, greater gliders, ornamental snakes and squatter pigeons
- Pollute creeks and precious water resources
- Pump polluted dam water into the Isaac River and drain 280 million litres of precious groundwater every year
- Fuel climate destruction that's already disrupting traditional First Nations practices and threatening thousands of years of cultural knowledge
Join us at the entrance to the Queensland Land court at 8.30am for a 9am rally on Monday 21 July to show up for nature, Country and people!
See you there!
