Save Queensland's Native Forests

Home to an astonishing array of unique plant and animal species, Queensland boasts the largest expanse of native forest in Australia.

Sign the petition to call on the Queensland Government to end native forest logging and work with Traditional Custodians to ensure the ongoing protection of these forests and their invaluable natural and cultural values.

Right now these native forests - habitat for endangered species - are being logged. Ongoing logging threatens Queensland's wildlife like the endangered greater glider. Greater gliders nest in large hollows, which take up to 400 years to form. Logging removes trees with hollows, and trees that would form hollows in the future.

The Palaszczuk Government needs to follow through on its commitment to double the footprint of protected areas in the state to 17%, and do its bit towards the national target of 30% by 2030. This will help ensure a future for our endangered wildlife.

Adding native state forest in Queensland to protected areas would increase our conservation reserves by 2.9 million hectares or around 20%. Now that native forest logging will end in Victoria by January 2024, Queensland has the largest area of publicly owned native forest, logged for timber. We should protect it now.
