Come along to our first Forest Watch BioBlitz in 2023!

70,000 hectares (ha) of state forest in South East Qld are home to a rich and important diversity of plants and animals and should be transferred to protected areas. We are running Forest Watch to help highlight why these area are so important to protect and connect people to forests threatened by logging. Using iNaturalist we are creating a network of citizen scientists to demonstrate the diversity of plants and animals that call these forests home.

At the end of last year Ferny Forest in Beerwah State Forest was protected from logging thanks to a powerful local campaign. Now people across the region have turned there attention to other state forests in the area including Beerburrum, Luttons, Peachester and Delaneys Creek. Peachester, like Beerburrum is scheduled for logging and parts of which are being logged right now. Join the bioblitz to meet locals campaigning to protect another 5000 hectares in the Glasshouse Mountains region.

At our BioBlitz you will join a small group of people who will work together using iNaturalist to take records and observations of what you find in the forest. No need for previous experience using iNaturalist or plant and animal identification. We will run through a quick introduction and team you up with people with more experience. This is a great opportunity to connect to the forest we are trying to protect, taking active steps to help protected it while also learning and having fun with others.

This is a family friendly event, children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. We will meet at Peachester Town Park for a briefing, divide into groups and then carpool to survey locations.

Before the BioBlitz - Download and have a play with the iNaturalist app. Join the Forest Watch Project and take a look at the Forest Watch Guide.

Sorry, this event is sold out.
