Forest Watch BioBlitz - Benarkin

Join us in Benarkin State Forest for our next Bioblitz!

70,000 hectares (ha) of native state forest in South East Qld are home to a rich and important diversity of plants and animals and should be transferred to protected areas. We are running Forest Watch to help highlight why these area are so important to protect and connect people to forests. Using iNaturalist we are creating a network of citizen scientists to demonstrate the diversity of plants and animals that call these forests home.

Surrounding a tiny national park there is a further 9 thousand unprotected hectares of diverse ecosystems including habitat for Koalas, Greater gliders, Yellow Bellied Gliders, rainforest and endangered vine thickets. Join us to explore Benarkin State Forest on Jinibara and Wakka Wakka Country. This is also an opportunity to meet locals and get involved in the local campaign.

At our BioBlitz you will join a small group of people who will work together using iNaturalist to take records and observations of what you find in the forest. No need for previous experience using iNaturalist or plant and animal identification. We will run through a quick introduction and team you up with people with more experience. This is a great opportunity to connect to the forest we are trying to protect, taking active steps to help protected it while also learning and having fun with others.

This is a family friendly event, children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Exact meeting location to be confirmed, RSVP for updates.

Before the BioBlitz - Download and have a play with the iNaturalist app. Join the Forest Watch Project and take a look at the Forest Watch Guide.
