They will discuss ways we can respond in our homes and across our communities, so that we can be more resilient and adaptive in the face of increasing climate risk, and future storm and flood events.   

Expert Speakers: 

Jerry Coleby-Williams, Freelance curator, conservationist, author and founder of Bellis, Brisbane’s award-winning sustainable house and garden.

Jerry is qualified in horticultural estate management, arboriculture, landscape design, horticultural and botanical sciences. 

Jerry also serves in several other roles as: Director of the Seed Savers’ Network; Patron, National Toxics Network; Patron, Householders’ Options for Protecting the Environment; Patron, Bat Conservation and Rescue (Queensland).

Sam Bowstead & Libby Ba-Pe, JDA Co.  

JDA Co. are a Brisbane based, leading architectural and design firm with some of the best expertise nationally in adapting homes and urban environments to withstand floods, cyclones, bushfires, storm surges and extreme heat.

They are also the preferred practice and deliver climate-resilient design guidelines for governments, councils and businesses.

Jane Holden, Vice President of Community Plus+ and Sustainable Development practitioner

Jane lives in Annerley and volunteers with Community Plus+, a grassroots organisation that has been helping people throughout the Brisbane Inner South to feel safer, connected and more in control of their lives for over 30 years. Currently Community Plus+ operates West End Community House, the Yeronga Community Centre, Annerley Outreach and QSTARS Tenants Advice Service.

The Yeronga Community Centre was born out of the 2011 community flood response effort and now again in 2022 is playing a vital support and mobilising role. Jane is also a Sustainable Development practitioner and has been involved in designing and delivering resilient housing projects to increase resilience to climate change.
