Right now we have an opportunity to make sure nature is on the agenda at the state election in October. With 1075 species threatened with extinction in Queensland, we need all sides of politics to make strong commitments. As you know, our wildlife is running out of time.
In just one year 323,676 hectares of forest and woodland was bulldozed. That's over 15 Lamington National Parks!
Threatened species like the spotted-tail quoll, greater glider and koala rely on forests and woodlands for their survival and sadly Queensland's historic rates of deforestation continue.
We need strong policies to ensure nature is protected.
We need all sides of politics to protect nature by committing to:
- No new extinctions, with an investment of $200 million each year for threatened species protection and recovery
- Introducing an independent Environment Protection Agency
- Strong nature laws that end deforestation and protect critical habitat for threatened species including Koalas in SEQ
- Doubling Queensland’s protected areas by 2030
