Crisafulli Government backs losing horse, sending coal envoy to North America

The Queensland Conservation Council slams the Crisafulli Government's decision to send a taxpayer-funded coal, oil and gas "trade mission" to the United States and Canada.

The announcement, made by Minister for Natural Resources and Mines, Dale Last, just hours ago, sends yet another signal from the Queensland Government that Queensland's clean energy investment is at risk.

Queensland Conservation Council campaigner Stephanie Gray said

While Queenslanders have struggled through more record-breaking flooding in North Queensland this summer, the Queensland Government seems to be slowly walking away from their commitments on climate action.

David Crisafulli and the Queensland LNP were elected after backing Queensland’s Australian-leading emissions reduction targets and promising climate action.

Now they’re backflipping on their commitments by repeatedly attacking clean energy investment and instead becoming cheerleaders for polluting coal and gas.

In boardrooms and government offices overseas, international leaders are setting deadlines to decarbonise. If the Queensland Government was serious about planning for the future and providing long-term regional economic security, they would invest in new green manufacturing opportunities.

Instead, they don’t have an energy plan, they're talking about walking back our renewable energy targets, and they’ve withdrawn support for a major green hydrogen proposal.

They should be giving certainty to the industries of the future, delivering new clean energy supply, regional jobs, and lower power bills that come with it.
