Join us in Deongwar State Forest for a fun early morning Bioblitz!

Join Save Deongwar, supported by Queensland Conservation Council to help highlight why this special place needs protection. Using citizen science we will collect information on what plants, animals and fungi call Deongwar home and use that information to advocate for it's protection.

Deongwar State Forest on the lands of the Dungibara People contains 4700 hectares of intact, high conservation value, remnant native forest that has good connectivity to adjoining nature reserves and nearby national parks. It is home to 146 protected native animals including the long-nosed potoroo, powerful owl, black-breasted button-quail, brush-tailed rock wallaby, white-throated needletail, glossy-black cockatoo, red tailed- cockatoo, koala and greater glider. Although logging has ended in the forest, this area still has no formal protection.

At our BioBlitz you will join a small group of people who will work together using iNaturalist to take records and observations of what you find in the forest. No need for previous experience using iNaturalist or plant and animal identification. We will run through a quick introduction and team you up with people with more experience. This is a great opportunity to connect to the forest we are trying to protect, taking active steps to help protect it while also learning and having fun with others.

Further information around meeting place and accommodations options will be provided in the follow up email.

Before the BioBlitz - Download and have a play with the iNaturalist app. Join the Forest Watch Project.

Will you come?
