Right now, we have an opportunity to push for strong new nature laws that will protect the plants and animals we love and our communities.

In November 2024, critical reforms to the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act were shelved, further delaying the strong nature laws Australia urgently needs.

With a federal election looming in early 2025, it's crucial we ensure these reforms come back to the table so the next Parliament can take action to protect our climate, communities, and iconic wildlife.

The Albanese Government's goal of 'no new extinctions' has to be backed up with strong action before even more irreversible damage is done.

Together we can take action for nature and make sure decision makers hear loud and clear that communities want urgent action on nature.

Dear MP,
 Australia urgently needs strong new nature laws to protect the animals and plants we love and to ensure our communities have the vital services that nature provides.
That is why I am writing to ask you and Prime Minister Albanese to please support the passing of the Nature Positive Bills with strong amendments to protect nature in February.
This is an opportunity to demonstrate your support for nature and our economy and communities that depend on it before the next Federal election.
Australia has the highest rate of mammal extinction in the world - even the koala is now endangered across New South Wales, ACT and here in Queensland because we keep bulldozing their homes.
The current EPBC Act is barely monitored, rarely enforced and full of loopholes allowing businesses to destroy nature with little accountability. This year, we've seen this failure in action with the proposed Vulcan South coal mine under criminal investigation for allegedly clearing 47 hectares of land in violation of the EPBC Act, yet it has just been approved by the government.
Since Australia's national environment protection law took effect 20 years ago, more than seven million hectares of threatened species habitat has been destroyed. In his independent review of the Act, Professor Graeme Samuel AC put forward 38 recommendations in October 2020 and we are yet to see any of those fully implemented.
We are at a critical point in time where these recommendations need to be implemented urgently, including Environment Protection Australia, Environment Information Australia and National Environmental Standards if we are to protect nature and create a future where koalas can thrive.
The Nature Positive Plan released in late 2022 laid out the pathway forward. Will you support strong new nature laws and climate policies that protect communities?
