Dear Treasurer and Energy Minister David Janetzki, 
I am deeply concerned by your announcements that the Criasfulli Government will repeal our renewable energy targets, investigate keeping our ageing coal power stations open past their retirement dates, massively expand polluting gas, and review the State’s 75% by 2035 emission reduction target. 
I urge you not to backflip on your promise to deliver real climate action for Queensland.
It’s very important to me that you and the rest of the Crisafulli Government stick to your word and plan to meet Queensland’s 75% by 2035 emission reduction target. 
Over the past few months our communities have been devastated by more frequent and ferocious extreme weather events. First the significant flooding in Townsville and North Queensland, then Cyclone Alfred threatened South East Queensland, and now huge floods have caused destruction in Western Queensland. 
Every Queenslander is already paying the cost of climate inaction, whether that’s through higher insurance or food prices, or cleaning up after another unnatural disaster. 
If we’re going to adequately address the climate crisis and protect our communities and vulnerable ecosystems like the Great Barrier Reef, we need to reduce emissions in the polluting energy sector by phasing out coal and gas. 
Research from the Queensland Conservation Council shows that keeping Callide B open past its retirement date will cost taxpayers up to $420 million a year. I urge you to keep Queensland’s emission reduction and renewable energy targets, and deliver comprehensive plans to meet them. Please don’t break your promise to Queenslanders.
