Expression of Interest - Seeking Artwork and Design for our Innovate RAP

The Queensland Conservation Council (QCC) seeks a Queensland-based Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander artist/designer to create artwork for our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) to help visually represent our commitment and vision for reconciliation.

Our vision for reconciliation is that the histories, knowledge and cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is fully acknowledged, valued and respected in Australia and within our collective work to protect Country.

In our work to protect Country, Queensland Conservation Council (QCC) will work towards a future in which our organisation, as well as the broader environmental conservation movement in Queensland;

  • Celebrates and acknowledges First Nations culture and knowledge.
  • Stands in solidarity with, and supports self determination of, Australia's First Peoples.
  • Centres First Nations voices, particularly when our project/s are central to Country.
  • Embraces connection between First Nations and environment groups.
  • Acknowledges the colonial history of conservation and the significantly longer history First Nations have on this land.

If your work is chosen, costs for commission will be covered, a licence agreement will be drafted and your story and artwork will be promoted as part of our public commitment to reconciliation.

Key themes and design elements we wish to be included

  • Country: Represent land, water, and natural landscapes significant to First Nations communities in Queensland.
  • Leadership and Voices: Highlight First Nations leadership in environmental work.
  • Reconciliation: Symbols of unity, healing, and moving forward together.
  • Traditional Knowledge: Incorporate elements representing the transfer and importance of First Nations ecological knowledge.

Artist selection criteria

  • Eligibility: Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander artist/designer based in and born in Queensland or the Torres Straits.
  • Experience: Demonstrated understanding of First Nations culture and environmental themes.
  • Collaborative Approach: Willingness to consult with QCC staff and stakeholders throughout the design process.
  • The artwork must be adaptable for both print and digital formats.
