QCC Statement on Electoral Material

Queensland Conservation Council would like to clarify the inclusion of a quote featuring Director Dave Copeman on electoral material released by Cooper MP Jonty Bush.

It came to our attention this week that electoral material for Cooper MP Jonty Bush featured a quote attributed to Dave Copeman in his capacity as Queensland Conservation Council Director.

This was incorporated by an error. This quote was not intended to be used in this context, and this material was not seen nor approved prior to its release.

After learning about this material, we contacted Jonty Bush’s office and asked them to stop distributing it. We can confirm that this has now occurred, and this material will no longer be distributed.

To be clear, Queensland Conservation Council does not endorse political parties or specific candidates in elections.

Dave Copeman provided a quote to Jonty Bush’s office in June to be used on social media, supporting her public advocacy around strong emissions targets and protections for the Channel Country.

QCC stands behind those comments as appropriate in that context. It is important to encourage politicians who are willing to stand up for the environment, and we do this regularly in our day-to-day advocacy.
