It's Time for Queensland to go from a Climate Laggard to Leader
As a rich nation Australia should be leading by example on climate change, but instead, states like Queensland are dragging our feet. The Sunshine State is home to natural wonders that need to be protected and one of the worst climate targets in the country. It's embarrassing!
Queensland's emissions reduction target of 30% by 2030 is well below the national 43% target and even further behind the climate science. Sign our petition to call on the Queensland Government and Opposition to step up their ambition on climate change – to protect the nature we love and our way of life. We’re asking them to:
- Commit to slashing Queensland’s climate pollution by at least 60% on 2005 levels by 2030, 70% by 2032 and 90% by 2035. To meet this increased ambition commit to no new coal and gas projects.
- Bring forward the build of new solar and wind farms, and repower our electricity system to be in line with 1.5 degree of warming.
- Improve the State’s planning frameworks and regional mapping so we can rapidly roll out renewable energy while protecting biodiversity.
