Take strong climate action and build a positive renewable future
Climate change is one of the biggest threats to our biodiversity and way of life, and while we have the clean energy solutions we need to bring down emissions, we need policy leadership from our decision makers.
The Queensland Government recently legislated a 75% by 2035 emission reduction target. This is a wonderful leap in the right direction. But with the Great Barrier Reef experiencing possibly the worst mass bleaching event in known history, it's vital that politicians of all stripes come to the table with strong climate action plans that are designed to safeguard our communities and nature.
Sign our petition to call on the Queensland Government and State Opposition to step up their ambition on climate change and build renewable energy in the right places.
We're asking them to:
- Commit to slashing Queensland’s climate pollution by at least 60% on 2005 levels by 2030, 70% by 2032 and 90% by 2035. To meet this increased ambition commit to no new coal and gas projects.
- Bring forward the build of new solar and wind farms, and repower our electricity system to be in line with 1.5 degree of warming.
- Improve the State's planning frameworks and regional mapping so we can rapidly roll out renewable energy while protecting biodiversity.
