Climate impacts risk Great Barrier Reef World Heritage listing - Australian government must act!

While the Morrison Government and Environment Minister Sussan Ley have committed to extend funding for the Great Barrier Reef, that plan for funding does little to address the biggest threat to the health of the Reef: reducing emissions to mitigate climate impacts.

After UNESCO announced it would consider listing the Great Barrier Reef as "in danger" in 2021, Minister Ley launched a lobbying mission to delay the decision. The Morrison Government continues to make the case that its Plan for Net Zero by 2050 will be enough to secure the Reef.

But the only way to make sure the Reef prospers for generations to come is to rapidly reduce our emissions to avoid 1.5 degrees of warming, which means Australia needs to be powered by 100% renewable energy by 2030. The Morrison Government's plan does not come close to this target.

QCC is running this petition in partnership with Australian Marine Conservation Society, hoping to demonstrate that thousands of Queenslanders understand that the Great Barrier Reef is in danger and we must act!

The Australian government needs to take responsibility and take action for our Reef. Join us to push back against the bluster and urge the Australian government to take bold action on climate change.

The Great Barrier Reef is in danger!

The Australian government must take serious and rapid action on climate change by transitioning from fossil fuels to clean energy, accelerating action and investment to reduce pollution. The Government needs to commit to a 1.5C compatible pathway.
