POWER UP QUEENSLAND!

Ask our Politicians to Power-up Queensland With Clean, Renewable Energy

Did you know that burning coal is Australia’s leading cause of climate change?

Would you be surprised to know that one organisation is responsible for two-thirds of the coal burnt in Queensland?

Would you be more surprised to learn that organisation is our elected State government?

Of the eight coal power plants in Queensland, six are owned or controlled by the state government, and use two-thirds of the coal burned in Queensland. In other words, the State government literally has the power to make change happen.

Currently, Queensland is Australia’s biggest carbon emitter, and Australia’s electricity grid is one of the most polluting in the world. There is no such thing as “clean coal”. Every day we burn more dirty coal is another day of needless toxic pollution.

The Queensland Conservation Council is campaigning to ensure Queenslanders can look forward to a safe and prosperous future, where coal power stations are replaced by clean renewable energy.

Sign the petition to ask our politicians to take real action to fight coal’s costly contribution to climate change.

Dear Premier,

We, the undersigned, urge you to use your power and ownership of Queensland’s electricity system to deliver on your promise to cut Queensland’s climate pollution, and get us on track to zero net emissions by 2050, or sooner.

Queenslanders need you to be the hero of the hour and:

  1. Rule out any new coal-fired power stations in Queensland
  2. Develop a plan to shift away from polluting coal power
  3. Power-up Queensland with clean renewable energy

Despite the new global challenges we are facing, Queenslanders want to see the Sunshine State lead the way in creating a sustainable low-carbon economy and a safe future for our kids. You have that power. Please don’t let us down.

This needs to be done for the well-being of both our current and future citizens, not to mention those of the entire planet. Climate change kills! There is no planet B!

    Dear Premier,

    1. No Adani, no development of Carmichael and subsequently Galillee coal mines

    2. No new Coal Power Stations

Please contribute your part to make Australia a country that uses their people mind and heart to earn income for this country. We can make renewable sources for our people to use and to export. Please do the right things for the Earth, for our people and for the world people, especially our Pacific nation peoples.

I think you know the sources of Renewables we Australia here can produce right here in Queensland and other parts of Australia. But in case you didn’t, please just consult Mr. Ross Garnaut, Mr.Alan Finkle, Mr.Holmes A Court, Mr.Yates, Mr.Michael Nolan, Ms Carolyn Invargson Convernor of Lighter FootPrint

Premier, we would like to be very proud of you and very proud that we are a people that are doing the vrey right thing for the survival of all because we take care of the Earth.

You are a very fortunate person who have the opportunity to do the right thing. Last week, at the conference, you declared Queensland to be 100% Renewables by 2030. PLease do not develop more coal mines.

Trusting you to do the right thing and thanking you,

    T.Doan

We must stand up to the pressure of the coal industry and industry spokespeople within Parliament. Please represent the will of the people of Queensland. We can transition to renewable energy sources. We can stand up to entrenched interests (inside and outside the government) that have controlled things for their own enrichment instead of either jobs or the environment.

Don’t take a backward step in going down old paths to kick start the economy based on short political gains and cycles. This would be very stupid and uninspiring.

This is a change that must happen NOW and NOT sometime way into the future, when we may not get to a future at the current rate of climate change and global mass extinctions. Otherwise we humans will also become part of this extinction. We have evolved on this planet and adapted to the environment the downstream changes of which we may not survive. We too could become extinct if we continue down this devolutionary, self-destructive path!

We must evolve to live in harmony and sustainably with nature.

Keep fossil fuel in the ground – commit Queensland to more renewable energy and show every other State in the country & nation in the world that we can do it, and so can they.
