Sign the petition: Palaszczuk government, save SEQ Koalas

Stand with us in calling on the Palaszczuk government to stop the clearing of koala habitat in Southeast Queensland.

An expert panel report has shown that past efforts to protect the koala, which is Queensland’s official animal emblem, have failed. Up to 80% of the koala population in Southeast Queensland has been lost in just 20 years due to destruction of woodland habitat, traffic issues and domestic dog attacks

The koala now faces the prospect of extinction in the wild in Southeast Queensland.

The State Government needs to take urgent action and immediately:

  • implement a moratorium on any clearing in south-east Queensland
  • declare the koala ‘Endangered’ in south-east Queensland
  • prioritise koala and habitat protection in new planning rules

Send a clear message that more needs to be done urgently to protect our state emblem.

Governments need to stop the destruction of known koala corridors, and laws put into place for developers, and make it mandatory either by punishment by jail or heavy penalties, and guidelines put into place so developers cannot find loopholes in the system to get their applications processed which would destroy green parks.

Save one of Australia’s national symbols! Have we become that greedy, that we put profit above the well being of our indigenous wildlife? When will it all end? Do we really need to clear so much land at the expense of biodiversity? It is time to stop pandering to the Corporations and protect our land and wildlife for the generations to come!

I’m a paid up member of the ALP but I need to see our Government doing the right thing in regard to environmental matters.

Koala’s are precious…a national icon we must protect…enough of destroying their natural habitat. We have such a poor track record when it comes to protecting our wildlife, if we lose the Koala it will be a travesty. Sign to save them becoming extinct and just a memory. Seeing one in the wild is becoming a real rarity.

We have to save what few native animals we have. Be on the right side of history not the side that profits at the expense of biodiversity
