Queenslanders are experiencing worsening natural hazards like floods, heatwaves and severe storms. People are losing their homes and heat and hazards are impacting our health and livelihoods. Our local governments are key to helping our communities to prepare and adapt to these changes but they need support and resourcing from the Queensland Government to succeed.
Now, as the Queensland State election approaches, we have a critical window to push for real action to protect Queenslanders and help us adapt. We need to secure bipartisan commitment to two key priorities:
- A business case for QHeat2050 to address the increasing heat risks.
- Resources to improve mapping that integrates riverine flooding, coastal hazards, and nature-based solutions, alongside better science for QCoast2100.
You have the power to influence this.
By signing this letter today you are sending a strong message to decision makers including, the Environment Minister, the Shadow Environment Minister, the Premier, and the Opposition Leader, to urge them to commit to these crucial actions. Together, we can ensure that our local governments are equipped with the tools and funding they need to protect our communities and adapt to a changing climate. Now is the time to make your voice heard.
