South-East Queensland is home to incredible natural beauty, but for how much longer?

Shockingly, the region's koala (Phascolarctos cinereus) population has dropped by 80% over the last 20 years. Queensland has the greatest biodiversity in the country, but we are losing more species than any other state or territory.

In the South East, six million people will call the region home by 2046. If this growth isn't managed properly, it will likely push the koala towards local extinction within two to three decades.

That's why we are drawing a line.

Together we'll protect Queensland's precious koalas from runaway urban sprawl, and ensure the federal government strengthens national environmental laws before it's too late.

Donate today to draw a line of protection around our precious native species and save them from urban sprawl!

We all know how quickly politics can change. This makes community pressure our strongest lever to pull. So, we're demanding that:

  1. No more remnant habitat should be cleared for development in SEQ.
  2. We need a smarter approach in managing a growing SEQ to protect biodiversity, with QCC's Bioregional Planning Framework being absorbed into federal environmental law reforms being a central part to this.
  3. Minimum 30% of South East Queensland’s diverse ecosystems to be protected, with 30% of land in protected areas by 2030 at the very least.
  4. There should be no more urban sprawl. Medium density developments in appropriate areas should be prioritised while efforts are made to make existing suburbia greener and more wildlife friendly.

We now know what needs to happen for koalas to survive. Support our work by making a donation today.
