The Queensland Government has finally released their draft Koala Conservation Strategy with proposals to strengthen protections for koalas.
The new strategy includes new koala habitat mapping as well as a commitment to undertake rehabilitation to restore 1000 ha of koala habitat in SEQ by 2024. Unfortunately, as it stands the strategy will fail to deliver meaningful protection for koalas unless there are also new laws implemented to protect koala habitat from destruction.
Parts of SEQ have already lost up to 80% of their Koalas, this is a critical opportunity to ensure koala are protected for the future.
Come along to our community meeting to hear directly from koala experts about the detail of the strategy and raise any concerns you have. There will also be an opportunity for you to get together with people in your community to discuss actions you can take to push for stronger laws.WHENJanuary 21, 2020 at 6pmWHEREKurilpa Hall
